I'm Tia Lucia
A walking miracle the doctors never saw coming, inspiring others to live life to the fullest
My Story
Doctors predicted:
-
By age five, I'd be in a wheelchair
-
By age seven, blind
-
And if things went well? I'd be lucky to survive past high school
💪 When man said, “Impossible,” God said, “Watch this.”
I'm walking, running, seeing, and living a life far beyond what anyone imagined. Stories like mine aren’t always easy to tell or to hear, but they matter. Statistics can only say so much. True connection happens through story. It’s through sharing our journeys that we discover meaning and more often than not, our purpose. For me, that purpose was woven into a wild, painful, and miraculous road.
💔 Tragedy Strikes
At just 17 months old, a tragic accident changed everything. My left leg was locked at a 45-degree angle, and after six weeks in the hospital, I was diagnosed with:
-
Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis,
-
Uveitis, a painful inflammation of the eyes
As a little girl, I cried constantly from the pain. Over time, things only grew more complex. I battled chronic sinus infections and pneumonia, sometimes up to five times a year.
Finally, at age five, doctors uncovered the deeper issue: Common Variable Immune Deficiency, which is a rare autoimmune disorder that prevents the body from producing enough antibodies to fight infections.
That diagnosis introduced a new rhythm of life: weekly blood infusions. I still receive infusions to this day. With death constantly hovering near, I found myself asking questions most kids never think about:
-
Why am I still here?
-
What did God keep me alive for?
-
What is my purpose?
💀 Ready to Die
One moment I’ll never forget: I was riding home from the hospital, listening to “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe, and I turned to my mom and said, “You have to be ready for me to die. I’m so excited to be with Jesus.” I was just a child, but I meant every word. You can imagine how difficult it was for my mom to hear.
Growing up, I often felt caught between two worlds: one foot here on earth, the other in heaven.
I stood out. I wore an eye patch. I was pulled from class for treatments. I felt different.
But even then, I refused to be defined by my diagnosis. I was determined to live fully.
And through every high and low, Jesus was my anchor.
🙏 Fully Surrendered
At eight years old, I gave my life to Christ at a family camp in Green Lake, Wisconsin.
That decision marked the beginning of a relationship with Him that has carried me through every season since.
👶 Miraculous Birth
Today, I’m a wife to Zack and a mama to our two beautiful kids, David and River.
They are living proof of God’s faithfulness.
Every day, I’m reminded:
-
I'm here for a reason, and so are you!
Thank you for letting me share my heart. No matter where your story begins, God isn’t finished writing it. I’d love to walk with you as you discover what God is doing in your life.
